08 Jul Residency Updates: Online Residency Card Renewals & Validity Extension Until October 2025

In light of recent developments affecting immigration procedures, we share below two key updates that directly impact residence permit holders in Portugal.

1. New Online Residency Renewal System (Experimental Phase)
A new online platform for residence permit renewals has recently been launched and is currently in its experimental phase.
Despite still being in testing, we have already been able to submit appointment requests through the system.

2. Automatic Extension of Expired Residence Permits
In the meantime, under Decree-Law no. 85-B/2025, the government has extended the validity of all residence permits that have expired or are due to expire. These permits will now remain valid until 15 October 2025, with full legal effect.
This extension is automatic, and no action is required on your part for it to apply.
